+ What value do I get for my money?

By choosing for GRP you are guaranteed to get a design building which is comfortable to live in, which is healthy, and saves energy, lowering the montly energy bill significanty. We offer many green design and engineering solutions, and walk trough the project together with the client.

+ WHAT are the terms and conditions?

+ How long does a design and build project take?

This varies by the type and size of your building. Take a look at this step-by-step overview to gain some insight in the process.

+ WHAT VALUE DOES INSULATION ADD?

A building's interior space is separate from outside space. The temperature and humidity should also be different. It costs energy to keep a cool inside temperature during a hot day. To minimize this needed cooling energy, there must be a strong thermal separation between inside and outside. Insulation is a thermal resistor (indicated with the R or Rm value) and blocks the heat from entering the house via the roof or the walls. Insulation comes in different forms, like polystyrene or rockwool, with different R/Rm values. Of course the thickness of the insulation also determines how much heat is resisted. A well insulated building needs significantly less airconditioning and thus is much cheaper.

Another essential role of insulation is separating the inside and outside relative humidities. Relative humidity basically means the percentage of humidity in the air. Aruba's air has a humidity of 70 - 80 %, while this can be much higher inside bathrooms or much lower in bedrooms. This difference causes condensation on the cooler side. All of this can be prevented by insulating and ventilating.

+ building Airtight or open?

A healthy building should be able to 'breathe'. That is why natural ventilation plays a major role in a green building. But the outside air is not always suitable to ventilate your building -- hot midday winds do not cool down and you do not want those inside, so an airtight building prevents this in thise case. However, the winds of the morning, afernoon, and especially night are perfect to ventilate your building. Therefore we search for an optimal solution between an airtight and open building -- to have 100% control of the airflows. That is why we offer many solutions like mechanical ventilation which can regulate temperatures and airflows, or use traditional louvre shutters and trade winds.

+ what is mechanical ventilation?

Mechanical ventilation or whole-house ventilation is a motor-driven system which controls airflows in a building. The system can be designed to exhaust wet rooms like the bathroom, toilet, and kitchen. Exhausting a room creates a slighty low pressure, which naturally sucks in fresh outside air via (controllable) grills. With this on-demand ventilation, you can actively exhaust while cooking or showering, and turn it back off after de humidity is lower again.

+ What are the advantages of prefabrication?

Our green products SIPS and aluminium and UPVC windows and doors are prefabricated, which means the products are 100% assembled in a factory. This means the materials are fabricated and assembled under perfect circumstances, optimizing the production rate. Intelligent tools and machines can be used, making the products much more dimensionally accurate. There is almost no waste, because materials do not need to be resawn. The products are all individually labeled and transported to the construction site. On the site, the products only need to be placed and connected. This is why a SIPS house construction can be built within two weeks. This is up to 50% faster than traditional construction, meaning there are less construction labor hours to pay.

+ How much does architecture cost?

The building prices on Aruba for a traditional building is approximated between $1100 - 1500 or €1000 per square meter.

For the costs of a green building you add 5 - 10% to the building costs. However, with a green building you will save money monthly and you are better off after the period of investment.

+ How much does shipping cost from Europe to Aruba?

Import taxes, labor, and shipping altogether adds 30 - 40% to the order costs. You can alwasy ask for a quote.

+ HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I SAVE WITH A GREENSCAN?

There are many factors which influence your energy consumption, for instance, whether your building is in the shade or in direct noon sun. We have helped clients who have saved 30 - 50% on their monthly energy bills.

A rule of thumb is that you can save 20 - 30% on your monthly energy bill if you use old appliances, and 35 - 40% if we insulate your building.
